In my first book, Separated by the War The Cave, ten year old brothers are separated during a battle between Yankee and Rebel forces on their isolated farm. The boys are rescued and raised on distant homes. They are reunited ten years later during a conflict with The Flower Society.

In the second book, Separated by the War Steamboats, the twins twelve year old sister also survives that tragic battle on their farm. Believing that she is the sole survivor, she enlist the aid of friendly Indian traders to help her on the farm and to escape the renegades that raided the war-torn land during the war between the states as she tries to fi nd her father's brother oldest brother in the

Big Bend of Texas.

In this, the third book in this series, Separated by the War Wagontrains, the survivors are united during their struggles with the Bosses and Drones of

The Flower Society. Traveling by wagontrain, steamboat, sailing ship, and horseback they cross the American continent and Atlantic Ocean in pursuit of their lives and dreams. They encounter the efforts of the war torn nation to rise from the ashes of the Civil War during the post reconstruction era and delayed

advances of the industrial revolution.

The fourth book, Separated by the War Pirates, is a prequel of the first three and details the Riley family coming to American and their initial conflict with The Flower Society.

I approached this book with a bit of trepidation, knowing that this was Mr. Arnold's first book, but he grabbed my attention with the first few paragraphs, peopled his book with perfectly believable characters at home in their time, and told their stories with such attention to detail in his descriptions of places and people that it seemed that I was there seeing it as it happened. I actually wondered if he had personally visited the places he described. This is a very good book that I would recommend to everyone, especially those who love history and stories of life in the years following the War Between the States.

Separated by the War Wagontrains Richard D Arnold 9781945960109 Books Reviews

This book is as enjoyable as the first one. It was hard to put down. Lots of action as June traveled across the country. Looking forward to the third book.
Mr. Arnold has done his homework. This book was so historically accurate, and I loved reading it. I didn't think I would like a book which included happenings during the civil war. But it was great. You'll be glad you read it.
This second book was very interesting and helped understand the comings and goings of the Riley family, the Flower Society, etc.
I am anxious to read the third book---Separated by the WarWagontrains. This series can be enjoyed by ages teen through adult.
The author really researched the time period of the story and write the book. The historical aspect of the book was right on.
I enjoyed the adventures of Jim and Josh. The storytelling of these young men's lives reminded me of the adventures of Tom Sawyer but twice as much fun and excitement. I loved the way that they were raised by caring folks who helped them to become good men knowing right from wrong and doing what they did to make this world a better place. My favorite part was the twist at the end about "the Canary" that I did not see coming. Mr. Arnold did a fantastic job with the development of the different characters. They came to life in my mind. I felt like I knew them all personally and I was in the thick of the gun fights and flight to get away for the Flower Society. It is a tale that will keep you turning the next page to see what will happen next.
As his brother, I may be viewed as prejudiced, but that does not change the fact that it is a good read. The characters were introduced in an interesting way and were well developed. The story was smooth flowing and kept one wanting to not put the book down. There was enough action throughout the book to keep it exciting. Descriptions of characters, geography and events were as though Richard had really been there. I recommend this book to all that is interested in the Civil War era and events. Although fiction it reads as fact. I especially liked the names of the characters. Those names will mean nothing special to those that are not familiar with them but many of the names were real people in Richard's life. I thought that was really neat.
This was a book I really enjoying reading. It reminded me of stories I heard growing up about events that actually happened during wartime. The war became more realistic as I read farther and farther into the book. I would recommend the book to anyone interested in the history of our country---those from mid-teens on up in age. It was easy reading and it made me feel as if I were living in the book.
